July 2-4, 2018, Larnaca, Cyprus
FOR RESEARCHERS FOR STUDENTS Submit

The Hellenic Data Management Symposium (HDMS) is the annual forum for the Greek database community to present and discuss recent advances in the data management field. After a successful series of events held since 2002, the 16th symposium will be held in Larnaca and Nicosia, Cyprus, from Monday July 2nd until Wednesday July 4th, 2018.

The program of HDMS 2018 will include research paper presentations, tutorials, demos, panels, and invited talks. The key criterion in judging submissions is that of technical content.

HDMS will have three tracks of research papers. The first track will include papers recently accepted for presentation in top international conferences or journals in the areas of data management and mining. The venues that qualify for this track will be announced at notification time, but includes at this time SIGMOD, VLDB, PODS, ICDE, SIGIR, IEEE Big Data, VLDBJ, IEEE TKDE and IEEE TPDS. The second track will include original work and also accepted papers in venues that do not qualify for the first track, which will be considered for presentation and inclusion in the unofficial HDMS proceedings after peer-review. For the first and second track please see the CFP. The third track will include posters from undergraduate or graduate students (until the second year of studies), in which the students will have the opportunity to expose their scientific achievements that relate generally to the data management field. For the third track, please see the Poster CFP.

The 16th HDMS will be held between July 2-4, 2018 at the Golden Bay Beach Hotel in Larnaca, Cyprus (https://goldenbay.com.cy/) with a half-day session at the New Campus of the University of Cyprus in Nicosia, Cyprus (https://www.ucy.ac.cy/).

Topics

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
  • Core database technologies (e.g. query processing and optimization, storage and indexing, database concurrency control, OLTP and OLAP processing).
  • Non-traditional data management architectures (e.g. data stream management, computational clouds, peer-to-peer systems, replica management, mobile data management, blockchain databases).
  • Data management applications (e.g. geographical information systems, data warehouses, social networks, scientific databases, IoT, crowd-sourcing).
  • Models and languages for the management of data (e.g. XML, RDF, probabilistic databases, meta-data management, multi-media, graph data management).
  • Techniques for high performance and scalability in the management of data (e.g. distributed data processing, hardware accelerators, new hardware technologies).
  • Confluence of data management with: information retrieval, knowledge management, natural language processing and data mining.
  • Other aspects of modern information systems (e.g. security, privacy, user interfaces, energy use minimization).
